System

In possession: 4–2–3–1
Out of possession: 4–2–3–1

Attack/Build-up

🟡 Long ball to Bamford was the most recurring option (Meslier to Roca or Meslier to Adams or Meslier-Koch, and then long ball )

🔵 Rodrigo dropped deep to receive it and off load it or link-up

🟡 Adams dropped deep to play in a sort of deep lying midfielder/regista during the build-up

Defence/Press

🔵 High press with the attacking four

🟡 Very high defensive line and high full-backs (exploited in occasion of Wolves’ opener)

🔵 Good pressing and high ball recovery

Highlights

❌ 5': Goal Wolves. LUFC conceded after five minutes. Wolves exploited Leeds’ high defensive line. The centre-back was caught in possession and lost the ball. Defence and midfield were slow to track back

Good reaction after the goal. Effective high pressing. To counter this, Wolves started to throw long balls and gave away most of them

⚽ 24': Goal LUFC. A long ball played by Wolves was recovered by Leeds in Wolves’ half (by one of the CBs — high line). Direct vertical ball into the box. Wolves midfield slow to track back. It was a 4-man Leeds vs 5-man Wolves situation. Leeds momentarily lost the ball, but recovered it twice with quick attacking press in the final third in the space of two seconds. Rodrigo then netted it from close range

Leeds veery much on the front foot. The only way for Wolves to beat the press was via long balls with consequently loss of possession — they couldn’t beat the press effectively

2nd half

Leeds slightly more on the back foot, they waited in their own half in a sort of 4–4–2 while Wolves developed their play from deep. High press not as intense and organised as in 1st half (not done collectively). They dropped off a bit but they showed good intensity and an effective high press

1st half was all about quick high press straight from the goal kick. In the 2nd half, the forwards lined on the attacking third line waiting for the first one-two passes before committing to press

Long spell of possession by Wolves. LUFC unable to regain the ball and exit from their own half. The forwards were pressing alone, the rest of the team are lying a bit deeper

🔄 64': Klich on for Rodrigo. One additional man in midfield. Same 4–2–3–1 system. Klich as n 10 like Rodrigo did in 1st half

Rodrigo seemed very tired. Klich brought more intensity and dynamism in and out possession. He was able to press higher and move into spaces

🔄 73': Greenwood on for Roca

⚽ 74': Goal LUFC. Wolves went long, the ball was intercepted in Wolves’ half. Four direct passes and Leeds were within touching distance from the goal. Adams played a vertical pass for Klich who slipped Bamford in and squared it for Aaronson. One of the defenders, in an effort to anticipate Aaronson, put the ball in his own net

🔄 84': Gelhardt on for Bamford. Summerville on for Aaronson
